'Bring You Back' was written on the top floor of a small apartment on the beach in Surfers Paradise, Australia. The 22nd floor to be exact. The ocean seemed to go on forever from the balcony.
As the song was being written, it's true meaning showed itself. Especially when the chorus hit. The vision of an old friend that had moved overseas and had stopped responding to letters glimmered in every word. Knowing she still existed but refused to communicate was like reaching out to someone who had passed on.
It was never intended to be as dark as it sounds in a literal sense. But it was meant to evoke that longing. That heartache and the confusing discomfort of wanting to communicate with someone who does not want to communicate with you. And if she heard it, I don't know.
lyrics
A promise is a promise and I told you i would
But lately I've been looking not so good
Making all these plans
Burying them in the sand
Till the water comes on over and runs over the land
Can you really blame me for wanting to bring you back
From the dead
That's what i said
A broken arm is broken but a heart can break in two
But it kills me with an arrow to hear these things from you
Making all this money
Burying the treasure
Trying to heal me heart is gonna take me forever
Can you really blame me for wanting to bring you back
From the dead
That's what i said

Something about the harmonic richness of acoustic harp and the spiky digital mangling makes for a beautiful juxtaposition. Hard to believe vol 1 is 11 years old. Vol 3 sounding great so far. Michael Upton (Jet Jaguar)
These three songs from JV & Palf deliver jittery, hyperactive dance music with split-second vocal samples an bass-heavy beats. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 4, 2018
